This project was inspired by my father, a writer and staunch environmentalist who authored a science fiction novel in which nearly all humans lived on other planets, allowing Earth to become a wildlife reserve. His idea of Earth without human life was utopia, but I found my imagined Earth without humans to be quite different. My way of expressing these concerns was to photograph and create landscapes devoid of life. At once personal and dystopic, my work imagines the future Earth as a scarred, damaged, fragile landscape ~ one that mirrors my concerns both about my own past and our planet’s uncertain future.
